From Cory Matteson at Casper Star Tribune: Michael Henry LaBrie's (48) body was found on a dirt road near Powder River on December 29th (2006), Sgt Mark Sellers of the Natrona County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday. He had been shot multiple times, Sellers said, and his body was found frozen. The sheriff's office released new details about what is being investigated as a homicide Tuesday morning, nearly two weeks after LaBrie’s body was found. A friend of LaBrie’s phoned in a missing person report the morning of Dec. 29, about six hours before LaBrie’s body was discovered near Powder River. The missing person report came 11 days after the last known contact mad with LaBrie, which was Dec. 18, Seller’s said. Labrie’ body had to have been in freezing temperatures for at least 24 hours. Natrona County Coroner Dr. James Thorpen said Tuesday. Sellers said the temperature in the area on Dec. 29 was about five degrees with a minus 15 degree windchill factor. The coroner’s office conducted an autopsy on Jan. 1, because they had to wait several days for the body to thaw. Thorpen said the conditions have impacted the investigation into where, geographically, LaBrie was shot and whether or not his body was moved and placed where it was discovered. Sellers said the friend who called in the missing person report had not seen him on the 18th, nor had LaBrie’s roommate, who lives in a Winnebago owned by LaBrie, who was 48. Both of them have been interviewed by the sheriff's office, Sellers said. An admitted alcoholic, LaBrie had a history of going missing for long periods of time, Sellers said. A bench warrant was issued for LaBrie on Dec. 20 after he missed a court hearing in regard to a failure to comply charge. LaBrie’s funeral will take place at noon today in California’s San Fernando Valley, where LaBrie resided before coming to Wyoming for work. Sellers asked anyone who saw LaBrie on or near Dec. 18 to either call the NCSO at 235-9282 or Crime Stoppers at 577-8477 (577-TIPS).
