Witnesses stated a young white male approached Erickson from behind and shot him, then ran into a wooded area. The investigation revealed that the same weapon was used in the homicide of Ralph DuCharme, which occurred on Aug. 24, 1988 in Minneapolis. DuCharme, a transient, was shot several times as he walked in downtown Minneapolis during rush hour. Descriptions of the suspect in the DuCharme homicide match the description of the suspect in the Willmar homicide.
