An intruder broke into the residence later that night. Family members did not hear gunshots or glass breaking during the subsequent altercation, but in the morning the victim’s sister found Mark shot to death in the basement. The victim’s family received an anonymous apology letter in the mail 14 years later confessing to the homicide, which allegedly occurred as an accident during a robbery attempt.
