Source text · highlightedOn December 22, 1992, at approximately 3:29 A.M., officers responded to the Total Gas Station on the report of a robbery where both clerks had been shot. Officers arrived as the clerks were being prepared for transport to University Hospital.
The victim when asked what happened, related he observed a customer fighting with the other clerk and ran over to help. At this point, the suspect shot him in the chest. The victim described the suspect as being a black male with a handkerchief over his face. The victim was taken into surgery and subsequently perished from the gunshot wound.
The other clerk related he had been behind the counter when he observed a black male enter the store. The black male filled a soft drink cup from the fountain and carried it to the north entrance of the counter area, set it down and produced a gun from his right coat pocket. He then stepped behind the counter. The clerk and suspect subsequently became involved in a physical altercation upon which David Walker ran over to assist him. The suspect shot David Walker and fled on foot through the front doors of the business.
