Source text · highlightedJoan Marie Bierschbach disappeared on November 5, 1979, after leaving her St. Cloud apartment to play in a volleyball game at a nearby school. Her car was located the following day parked at a Perkin's restaurant in St. Cloud with her purse and other personal items in the vehicle. Witnesses reported seeing the victim eating alone at the restaurant on the day she disappeared when she was approached by an unidentified male. Bierschbach's skeletal remains were found on October 2, 1984, in the Mississippi River near Monticello. Based on evidence found at autopsy, the medical examiner determined Bierschbach’s death was a homicide.
